How to Publish with Expression Web 3
FTP to Publish a Web Site with Expression Web 3
1. Set up an FTP Account inside Your Web Hosting account
Check your web hosting account to find your username and password needed to publish your site. This information will vary from one hosting provider to another.
You may need to set up your FTP account, but this too depends upon your hosting provider. But, if you are publishing to a sub-domain that you set up within your account, then you will need to set up an FTP within your web hosting account. This is rather simple to do. Just check with your hosting, they usually have a help section to guide you in doing this.
NOTE: You do not need a third party FTP client like Filezilla. Expression Web is your FTP client and is all you need for publishing.
For Hostmonster and Hostgator, your account login information is the information you will enter in Expression Web when publishing via FTP.
Steps to Follow when Publishing with Expression Web 3
1. Make sure your web site is open in Expression Web then click on Site View

2. Next, click "Publish" which is located under the main editing window.
Next, you will see the following:

In the above image, it reads "Connect to Current Publishing Destination.
However, if this is the first time you are publishing, it will say "Add a Publishing destination".
3. Click on "Add a Publishing Destination"
Doing so will open the following window:

The Publishing "Connection Settings" Panel seen above, is a change from Expression Web 1 and 2. Notice you can now choose the number of maximum connections and you can enter your username and password. Refer to Expression Web 2 Publishing Tutorial.
In the Connection Settings box, do the following:
- 1. Choose a Connection Type: FTP
- 2. Location: ftp://ftp.web-design.net (no, this is not a typo. )
- 3. Directory: public_html
- -- most home directories are public_html, and is the directory that we need to publish our pages to. That said, you may want to double check with your hosting provider.
- 4. Credentials: Enter your user name and password for your hosting account.
- 5. Settings: Max Simultaneous Connections you can let it at 4. Be sure to check to box next to "Use Passive FTP". This is a bit more secure.
- 6, Click Add
What if I want to Publish to a Sub-domain?
The only thing you really need to change is the Directory to which you publish to: public_html/subdomain
Example: Let's say you create a sub-domain by the name of test-site. You would publish to the following directory: public_html/test-site
Next, Click on Connect to Publishing Destination:

Once you've been connected to your server, you will see two panels that will load into the window. The left panel contains all the files of your site on your computer, while the right panel will contain all teh files you have uploaded so far (if any).

In between the two panels, you will see a few blue arrows. One blue arrow points to the left (local) and the other points to the right (remote). The third blue arrow(s) is used to synchronize files on both sides- local and remote.
You can click on the blue arrow that points to the right and publish all files to the remote site (ie..your web hosting). Or you can click on individual files on the left panel and then click on the right-pointing arrow and publish individual pages
