Web Site Planning.  Check out WebDesignFromScratch.com which has a ton of excellent useful information.

 

When you go to the above site, look for ARTICLES on the right side of the screen.  Click on Basics and start there.  The Basics review some very important concepts and facts that you really need to know.

 

Online Behavior.  For instance, the behavior of people on the internet may surprise you.  But, the more you understand about your viewers, and viewers in general, the more successful your web site will be. 

 

Viewers Scan, they don't read.    This should clue you in on the fact that  you should use plenty of headings that include key words that your viewers may be searching for.  It also means that you should give good thought to the name of your hyperlinks in your navigation menus. 

 

Viewers are very very Impatient.  They are in a hurry.  So help them find what they are looking for.  This means creating a navigation system that is easy to follow and find information.

 

It also means that when writing your copy you need to get to the point in the very first sentence.  Just forget about the metaphors or Introductions.  And forget about the Welcome to my site....and similar stuff. 

 

Now take notice of the above paragraphs.  Do you see how I made the first few words bold?  I know that you are more likely to read just a few words here and there.  So I made the important words bold and then organized them in a list format.  Then, when you run across some words that are something that interets you, you will then continue to read a bit more about that topic.
